About the artist

Elise Boulanger is a sweet darkness wrapped in orchestral instrumentation. Hailing from Nanaimo (Snuneymuxw), Canada, this chamber-folk-pop artist completely captivates audiences with her haunting avalanche of a voice. She creates cinematic dreamscapes influenced by nature, her classical training and artists like Regina Spektor, Patrick Watson, Franz Schubert and Radiohead. She is described as sharing semblance with Kate Bush, Lana Del Rey, Kishi Bashi and CocoRosie. Her current single “The Mariner’s Remedy” (2019) is a cinematic sea chantey which Boulanger describes as “a poetic ghosting.” It will be followed by the summer release of single “Cigarettes et Rosé,” an energetically percussive anthem of silly French happenings alluding to history and the importance of trusting people. Environmental activism is of great importance to Elise. She intentionally uses her music to ignite the conversation about climate change in order to inspire us to take action with compositions like “The Warming,” (available only as a live video). This summer 2020 she would have been touring BC with her band to build on over 15+ years of performances, like the 2018 JUNO celebrations and several notable Vancouver Island festivals.

Recent or upcoming happenings

  • Preparing for the release of upcoming single "Cigarettes et rosé". "Cigarettes et rosé" is an energetically percussive anthem of silly French happenings alluding to history and the importance of trusting people. While living in France, she observed that, “people wouldn’t trust others to come into their homes. Thus, they would avoid having at-home gatherings. This absolutely fascinated me, especially given that Canadians are so welcoming and accepting.” It’s the first of several singles planned for 2020. The vision behind a series of singles beckons back to the Romantic Era’s days of the art song. For 2021 expect the release of her first album.
