About the Broadcaster

Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Roy Orbison. To most of us, this is a hit parade of iconic music untouchables that we experience only through pop culture nostalgia. But for Red Robinson, this list inhabited his everyday life. Robinson is a Canadian broadcasting legend, and CHLY is excited to present a live interview with him on Friday June 19 at 5:00 PM.

Even a condensed list of Robsinson’s accolades would give a Wikipedia contributor heart palpitations. In 1989, the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters presented Robinson with an honor as a Broadcast Pioneer. In 1994, Red Robinson was officially inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame. In 1997, Robinson was elected to the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame. In 2006, Robinson's home town of Comox inducted him into the Comox Valley walk of achievement. In July 2016, Red was appointed to the Order Of British Columbia, the highest form of recognition by the BC Government. He helped raise over $100 million for children with disabilities on the annual Timmy's Telethon, which ran for 23 years. Red officially retired from broadcasting in 2017.

“I got into the business because I connected with who was on the air.  And I think that’s missing,” he says. “You know, you don’t have the personality types. You have a few, but not as many.”
