Work Integrated Learning and Directed Studies at CHLY
Directed Studies
Students seeking upper-level course credits can work with their instructors and professors to propose Directed Studies projects that result in audio productions for broadcast and podcast with CHLY 101.7FM. CHLY supports students by providing basic audio editing training, recording support, project feedback, podcast-friendly music, and formatting recommendations for audio production.
Past examples of work produced through directed studies include the limited series Reality Check (2022), hosted and produced by Devon Manning during his fourth year of studies at Vancouver Island University. This program was broadcast over the summer of 2022.
Internships and Co-ops
Every year through Work Integrated Learning at VIU, we host students who are interested in gaining valuable work experience related to their field of study. Most recently, we have hosted Internships for Creative Writing and Journalism students, though we do accept internships and co-ops from other programs.
