Support local community media by making a donation with the form on this page. If you need assistance call us at 250.716.3410 to have us take your donation over the phone during office hours. Please leave a message if we don’t pick up, we check our messages regularly.

IMPORTANT: CHLY 101.7FM (The Radio Malaspina Society) is a non-profit organization, but does not have charitable status, and cannot at this time offer tax-receipts. We'll keep you informed if this ever changes.

Through our donation form on this page, we accept payments via credit card, some debit cards for monthly Sustaining Donations, or One-time Donations.

CHLY also offers incentive items for your donation! See below for information on incentive fulfillment.

You may also pay your Radio Malaspina Society Membership by making a monthly Sustaining Donation of at least $4.25. More information on membership can be found here.

With note with your name, address, phone number, and email (and perhaps a few nice words about what you enjoy on our station, and whether or not you’d like an incentive item), send cheques made out to “Radio Malaspina Society” to:

Incentive Item Fulfillment

With a small staff at CHLY, fulfillment of your incentive items can take between a few weeks to a few months, depending on item availability. If an incentive (or it’s preferred size) is not in stock , we will put you on the waiting list for our next order. Alternatively, we can swap the item for another incentive item(s) of a comparable price.

If you reside outside of the Nanaimo area or require delivery, we can mail you your incentive, but will require you to pay postage the postage (approximately $18 for a shirt or hoodie). Pickup from the station is free!

What we want to do with your money this 2023-2024:

  • Pay our basic overhead. Your support keeps the lights on. We can’t do this without you.

  • Pay down our $20,000 transmitter loan. The sooner we do, the sooner we can re-allocate resources to other important projects and programs. We want to cover more local news and politics!

  • Cover current core staff costs. Our Executive Director and Program Coordinator are only paid a part time salary for what is really full time work. We need your support to do this!

  • Increase capacity for more complex on-air programming, like local news, journalism, etc.

  • Build up a strategic fund for future opportunities, like a new home for the station in the next 2-5 years.

  • Hire students. We are a campus-community radio station after all.

  • Purchase remote broadcast equipment for live events and festivals.

  • Explore other content delivery options like video live streaming for shows.

  • Organize more events on the campus at VIU, in Nanaimo and broadcast community.

What we have done with donor money in the last few years

  • Increased our capacity to get things done. We hired an Executive Director at a living wage to administer CHLY, and gave our Program Coordinator a well deserved raise to a living wage. We have also hired youths since 2018 with money from donors and Canada summer Jobs.

  • Further developed on-air programming at CHLY like our Free Evergreen PSA program for non-profits and community groups in our broadcast community. This program provides approximately $150,000 of free air-time in the form of 30 second Public Service Announcements to promote their missions and activities.

  • Got through the lean years of the pandemic.

  • Purchased six sets of SONY MDR-7506 Professional Dynamic Studio Headphones for our recording booth and recording interviews in the field.

  • Purchased six ZOOM H1n Handy Records for our staff, volunteers, and upcoming Summer Radio Camp for Youths!

  • Replaced our professional grade CD decks for the studio.

  • Replaced our studio computer after it died over the summer of 2018.

  • Purchased an external sound card for the new studio computer.

  • Upgraded our logging system to Spinitron for more accurate logging and tracking. Spinitron also makes it way possible for you to know what you’re listening to while streaming us online! Radio Rethink’s Airpocket Player makes this possible.
