New for 2025, supporters now have the option to donate to the station through the VIU Foundation to receive a charitable tax receipt.
When you donate through the VIU Foundation, your money goes into a special fund that is reserved primarily for acquiring important equipment for the operation of our non-profit station. This includes items that will have a long lifespan at the station like new computers, printers, audio mixers, on-air mics, field recorders, studio and office chairs, audio processors, servers, signal multiplexer, studio transmitter links, etc.

Immediate Capital Costs
These are mission critical capital acquisitions we must acquire in the near future.
CAP Emergency Alert Decoder — For public safety alerts. Estimated cost $3500.
Emergency Battery or Diesel Backup — Estimate in progress.
Recent Capital Costs
Below are some examples of important capital expenses we’ve had to made over the last few years.
2021 — $20,520 for Transmitter Replacement and other technical upgrades. Paid for via a loan from VIUSU. This loan is on track to be repaid for December 2026.
2020 to 2023 — Approximately $4,360 for new studio headphones for the studio and field recorder acquisitions for our equipment library. Used by our staff, volunteers, and summer radio camp participants.
2024 — $13,700 for Studio and Server Upgrades. Paid for via a Community Gaming Grant minor capital project. Funded by the Province of BC.
Near Future Capital Costs
A relocation to the campus will cost money. Much of this cost will be outfitting a new studio and office for the station in VIU’s planned Student Activity Centre.
Summer Radio Camp Headphones — We need more 10 more pairs of studio headphones for our Summer Radio Camp. Estimated cost: $1500.
Relocation to Campus — Total estimated cost $100,000. Below are some of the items making up this total estimate.
Production Studio Equipment— Estimated cost $14,000.
New computers for studio and office — Estimated cost $12,500.
New Studio Transmitter Link — Estimated cost $10,000 to $16,000.
