Varied funding helps to keep our organization strong, covering the costs of our varied programs. Operational costs include staff, office and studio space, utilities and the usual overheads of any small broadcast media organization.
The diversity of our funding also helps us remain independent in our editorial decision making.
Those wishing to make a donation to support our work can make a donation here.
Operational funding for our organization comes from the following sources:
Student fees paid by Student Members through the Vancouver Island University Students’ Union (VIUSU) at the Nanaimo campus of Vancouver Island University. We do not yet collect student fees from the Cowichan campus of Vancouver Island University.
Donations from its listeners, readers, and supporters.
Advertising and sponsorship from primarily local businesses, non-profit arts and culture organizations, and musicians.
Membership fees from Community Members in Nanaimo, and the station’s broadcast community on the Salish Sea.
Program and project funding:
Grants from the Community Radio Fund of Canada for our Nonprofit Newsroom Project like the Local Journalism Initiative.
Funding from the Canadian Journalism Collective via the Online News Act.
The Province of British Columbia’s Community Gaming Grant for our On-Air on the Salish Sea program and Summer Radio Camp.
The Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs wage subsidy grant for our Summer Radio Camp for Youths.
Grants from Coastal Community Credit Union for advertising grants for small business.
