What is World Radio Day?

From UNESCO’s Website:

Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO Member States and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, World Radio Day (WRD) is celebrated every February 13. It is a Day to thank broadcasters for the news they deliver, the voices they amplify and the stories they share.

Past WRD themes have included

Established by UNESCO, since 2011, February 13th has marked World Radio Day, a day to celebrate what is still a powerful communication medium for entertainment and dissemination of information. This year the event will explore the intersection of radio and artificial intelligence (AI).

Today February 13th is World Radio Day! The 12th year since its proclamation in 2011 by UNESCO. This year's theme is "Radio and Peace". Past years have celebrated gender equality, youth, sport and diversity.

December 12 of this year will also mark 122 years since Marconi successfully broadcast across the Atlantic from Newfoundland to Cornwall England.

The objective of World Radio Day is to raise public awareness of the importance of radio and to encourage decision-makers to use it to provide access to information, and to improve international cooperation among broadcasters.
