Philosophy Café: Climate, Power, and Responsibility—A Community Conversation

  • Vancouver Island Regional Library, Harbourfront Branch 90 Commercial St Nanaimo, BC V9R 5G4 Canada (map)

Event poster (Provided).

A Philosophy Café is a space for the friendly discussion and clarification of ideas.

If climate change exposes deep gaps in global governance, what ethical responsibilities do corporations, governments, and local citizens hold? How do principles like “polluter pays,” human rights due diligence, and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) commitments stack up against real-world practices? We'll dialogue about what local and transnational initiatives can offer or teach us about agency, hope, and justice in times of climate crisis.

Finn Meyer Cook is a Professor of Social Work at VIU, and represents VIUFA on FPSE's Climate Action Committee.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Coffee will be served, and to conserve paper, Philosophy Café is transitioning to BYOM (bring-your-own-mug).

Co-hosted by Vancouver Island University and the Vancouver Island Regional Library.
