Community Broadcasters Foundation of Canada officially launched

Hello listeners,

In the last month, I have been happy to see the official launch of the Community Broadcasters Foundation of Canada (CBFC), a foundation years in the making created specifically to support community media organizations like CHLY 101.7FM. It will make a huge impact on the more than 230 campus, community, and Indigenous radio stations across Canada, in every corner of the country, from urban centres to small towns to Indigenous reserves.

Five months ago, the CBFC made a big step in appointing Marisa Robins as their first National Director of Fundraising. Robins has twelve years of experience in the not-for-profit world, having raised millions for charities like Indspire, March of Dimes, and the SPCA. I’m thrilled to see her join the cause!

I have an ask for you though. I want you to donate to the CBFC to support their work to support us. They’ve got a small fundraiser on the go, and they are still about $8000 dollars away from their $10,000 goal.

Those who donate will receive a charitable tax receipt for their support.

As a non-profit, we’ve never been able to offer tax receipts, and charitable status is unfortunately next to impossible to acquire for community radio stations like CHLY 101.7FM. Down the road though with the CBFC, you’ll be able to donate through the Foundation to fund CHLY 101.7FM and get a tax receipt!

That’s something I’m very much looking forward to, running a cash strapped non-profit!
