Important notice regarding "Falcon BookNook" emails to authors
Books, we like them, but we don’t work with Falcon BookNook. (George Milton/Pexels)
We have received numerous emails from authors reporting emails from a “Falcon BookNook” claiming that they are associated with CHLY 101.7 FM and work as an intermediary for interviews. They are not associated with CHLY 101.7FM, and we have never worked with them, nor would we consider working with them. Whether they have made similar claims about other campus, community, college, or public radio stations is unclear to us.
The emails appear like the following:
Hello REDACTED,
I hope you are having a peaceful week and catching a bit of a breather.
I am reaching out from Falcon Booknook, where I work as a literary scout. Our team puts together specialized literary segments, and we work hand-in-hand with CHLY 101.7 FM. The station has a fantastic origin story. It was first planned back in 1990 by Dr. John Black, a local college professor who wanted a genuine voice for the community, which eventually went live on the air in 2001. Through our work with them, we have seen how much these intentional book spotlights resonate with audiences who love independent, alternative storytelling.
I was exploring your book, and the way you built your central themes really stuck with me. Your work has the precise blend of grit and honesty that listeners throughout Vancouver Island and the Salish Sea look for.
To make sure everything fits the station's broadcasting requirements perfectly, the CHLY FM team has set up specific interview styles tailored to your genre. We use these frameworks to structure the exact questions that ensure a seamless official acceptance from the station.
If you are open to doing an interview feature, we would love to pass along our quick questionnaire link. This lets you pick the specific question style that matches your vision, so our production team can design your custom interview blueprint.
Let me know if you would like to take a look, and I will send the link right over.
Best regards,
Emily
