In honour of the fifth annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR), also known as Orange Shirt Day, CHLY 101.7FM in partnership with APTN and others, will air commercial free Special Programming from 4:30PM to 6PM on Tuesday September 30th.

This special programming is Remembering the Children: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a 90 minute commemorative gathering, live from Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

Burgan, a senior of 83 years, and a lounge pianist of 35+ years, first started as a volunteer host in 2019 with a one hour program called Mozart at One. Over the years, the show grew to two hours and saw a name change to Amadeus and Friends. This year, the program shifted to a three hour format under the name Midday Mozart, which now airs Tuesdays from noon to 3PM. It is our station’s flagship classical music program, among many other music programs that feature genres not typically heard on other local stations like jazz, blues, electronic, metal, punk, and independent rock, pop, and hip-hop.

In June of this year, we at CHLY 101.7FM had the pleasure of hosting NCRC43, the 43rd National Campus and Community Radio Conference of the National Campus Community Radio Association/L'Association nationale des radios étudiantes et communautaires.

92+ attendees came to Nanaimo from all across Canada, from the Maritimes, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, to everything in between, and even Australia and the United States! For four days from June 17th to June 20th, thirty fascinating sessions were hosted by 45 presenters invigorating those involved in campus and community radio.

Once again our Summer Radio Camp for Youths returns for 2025! With funding returning to normal, this years camp will run larger with room for 15 youths per week. Don’t forget to register soon to reserve a seat for your youth!

As Conference Coordinator for NCRC43, you will be working with both CHLY 101.7FM staff, as well as staff from the National campus and Community Radio Association to help coordinate the 43rd National Community Radio Conference.

As a Junior Producer at CHLY, you will be working within a broadcast facility that provides a community service to its listeners. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks. These tasks include but are not limited to, taking the lead in hosting our Summer Radio Camp in July; filling in on the VIU Meter, our daily drive time new music program; recording ads and PSA, as well as helping to develop other on-air programming!
